One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is capturing the amazing things people create—and helping them share it with the world.
Along the way, I’ve met unknown artists making museum-worthy work, entrepreneurs building brands from the ground up, and passionate people offering incredible services but too busy creating to worry about marketing. Helping them tell their story through photos is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Here’s a look at a few of the businesses I’ve had the chance to work with.

First Cast Flies
First Cast Flies is a fly tying and guiding business run by Fred Schroeder out of upstate New York. He ties a variety of killer predator flies—perfect for chasing your next personal best musky, pike, or anything big and nasty in your waters.
Last year, Fred and I shared one of the most unforgettable days I’ve ever had on the water. The fishing wasn’t lights out, but we were definitely moving fish. Most of the pike fly fishing I’d done before was on rivers, where the current keeps your line tight and helps with solid hooksets—even when the fish blasts straight through the fly. But on a stillwater lake? Totally different story. After missing at least four fish, I learned that the hard way.
By the end of the day, I still hadn’t landed anything, despite plenty of shots. We moved to a new stretch, and I missed a nice one right next to the boat. Fred handed me a rod that had been sitting idle, thinking a fly change might get the fish to eat again.
As I went to cast, the tip of the rod flew off. I quickly brought the line back in while Fred grabbed the loose tip. Right then, a big pike T-boned the fly. I stripped line while Fred lifted what was left of the rod—and seconds later, the tip exploded in his hand. Somehow, we still landed the fish.
